It's not an easy thing to get moving video of actors performing in a play, especially on a restricted budget. The union demands-- no argument here-- that they be paid. The theater budgeted for 3 minutes from each play (broadcast time) and for a shooting day of the play itself. To augment this, we created a rehearsal sequence by staging a "rehearsal" in our studios, from still photos-- still, perhaps, my favorite sequence from the show. Ric Sorgel shot the photos, and Rob Riordan animated them. The first three shots show some of the montages featuring director Irene Lewis and the cast. Shooting the plays was no easy matter. We hired a crew from a local station and shot with the stage lighting. This was 1977. Video cameras needed light-- lots of it. How we got video into those camera tubes is beyond me, but we did. The actors were brilliant.Pasted GraphicPasted Graphic 1Pasted Graphic 2Pasted Graphic 3
